Narrative:
On June 24, 2026, I was assigned to marked cruiser East-2, I was dispatched to 14 McGrath Highway (Marshalls) for a report of an active shoplifter who had just left the store. Male party was described as a black male , white shirt, and black vest. While searching the area, Officer N. Moreira was flagged down by Loss Prevention Officer XXXX, who pointed out the suspect identified as Mr. William NELSON, who was in his line of sight at the intersection of Sixth Street and Cambridge Street in Cambridge. Cambridge Police responded to the location as backup. I was informed by XXXX that NELSON had trespassed from the store and had concealed merchandise inside a Market Basket shopping bag.
While speaking with NELSON, I observed merchandise belonging to Marshalls, including two watches and two packs of T-shirts, with a combined value of $59.58. Surveillance footage showed NELSON entering Marshalls at approximately 12:48 PM, selecting merchandise, concealing it inside a plastic bag, and exiting the store at approximately 12:50 PM without paying, passing all points of sale.
NELSON was informed that he was under arrest and was transported to the Somerville Police Department for booking by Lieutenant Kim.
Afterward, Officer Moreira and I returned to Marshalls. While there, Officer Moreira was informed by K&G Store Manager XXXX that NELSON had also attempted to shoplift from her store. XXXX reported that NELSON concealed an iWatch valued at $19.99 inside his plastic bag. According to XXXX, NELSON was confronted by a customer, at which point he discarded the item onto the floor and left the store shortly thereafter.
NELSON was placed under arrest for:
