The Somerville Police Honor Guard represents the Somerville Police Department, its officers, and their families at police funerals, parades,
and other official ceremonies.

Support During Line-of-Duty Incidents

  • If a sworn officer or civilian employee dies or is seriously injured on duty, the department provides support for their family.
  • The Department Liaison Officer helps communicate between the family and the police department.
  • The Funeral Liaison Officer works with the Department Liaison Officer to make sure the family’s needs and wishes are met.
  • This includes coordinating honor guards, pallbearers, and traffic control for funeral services.


Role of the Honor Guard

  • The Honor Guard is made up of Somerville Police members who are highly motivated and maintain exceptional standards of appearance and conduct.
  • They perform ceremonial duties with precision and respect.
  • Honor Guard members are also known as the "Guardians of the Colors", responsible for displaying and escorting the national flag at official local and state events
