Narrative:
On June 30, 2026, I was working a paid detail for the city of Somerville when I was asked by the company to see if I could locate the owner of a car that needed to be moved. While standing on the doorstep of 31 Holland Street I looked over to the outdoor seating area in front of KINDERCARE LEARNING CTR where I noticed a black male who was wearing black sweatpants, and a black t shirt siting on a concrete bench with a white male who was later identified as Anthony DEPAOLO who was wearing a black t shirt and gray sweater shorts. DEPAOLO also has long grayish hair that was in a man bun.
As I watched the two males on the bench, I noticed that DEPAOLO had a clear plastic baggie in his hands and the two were looking at it. DEPAOLO then placed this baggie next to his left leg, believing that this could be some type of narcotic I shut my radio off and made my way across the street. Without the two noticing me I stood in front of them and stated what are we doing, DEPAOLO looked up at me with a shocked face and a clear baggie that was open fell onto the ground and a small white rock fell out of it. Due to my training and experience I believed this to be Crack Cocaine. The black male immediately got up and walked away. I ordered him to come back to my location, but he continued walking. I made the decision not to pursue him and stand by DEPAOLO who had the narcotics on the bench. I radioed dispatch for more units to assist me as I was by myself. Officer Goodnow, who was working on the detail with me, made his way over but was pulled away to attend another matter in front of the train station on Holland Street. A loud commotion was heard from the bus, and as I looked over my shoulder DEPAOLO took off running. I radioed out his description and Officers McCune and Westgate were able to stop him and bring him back to my location.
At this point Officers Thompson and Romero all arrived to assist along with S9 Costa and Cpt Sheehan. Once back to my location DEPAOLO was placed into hand cuffs and I read him his Miranda Warnings from a card that Officer McCune gave to me. During the search of DEPAOLO I located 3 small little white rocks in his left pocket and placed them inside the baggie that had fallen on the ground also believed to be Crack Cocaine. I also located 3 large white oval pills which he stated were Gabapentin. On the bench next to him was another clear baggie with 2 large white rocks also believed to be Crack Cocaine. I then radioed for unit 200 to respond to my location to transport DEPAOLO back to the station to be booked by Lt Kim. Before being transported DEPAOLO stated that he was trying to purchase drugs from that black male, but he did not get to pay him because I showed up and he walked off. DEPAOLO was arrested and will be charged with Drug, Possess Class B, Subsq Off (Crack Cocaine) and Drug, Possess Class E (Gabapentin) and a warrant that was located in CJIS (2601CR00874)
I then transported all evidence back to the police station where I tested them along with Cpt Perrone. We used the department's Rigaku machine to test the following.
Clear Baggie 4 small white rocks (Cocaine Free base)
Clear Baggie 2 large white rocks (No Match)
3 large white oval pills (Gabapentin)
2 round peach pills (No Match)
Due to the above test results, I will be sending the clear baggie with 2 large white rocks to the state lab to be tested further. The other baggies will be placed into evidence.
