Narrative: On Monday, August 24th, 2026 at 10:55 am, Somerville Police Control received a call from Target (180 Somerville Ave), regarding a shoplifter who was previously trespassed. The description was a short black female wearing a dark-hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, wearing a "Covid mask". I, Officer Barton (E2) along with Officer Pavao (WR2) responded to that location. Upon my arrival, I observed a party matching that description walking through the Target parking, away from the store and in the direction of Somerville Ave. As this was happening, XXXX (RP/Loss Prevention) was exiting the store and pointed to said party and told me that was her, and even named her as "Shelisa Bittle", but said that before leaving, she had passed the shopping cart full of items to another black male wearing a red sweatshirt, later identified as XXXX through in-store video footage. I then made my way over to BITTLE as she was continuing to leave the area, and when I approached her, I said "Shelisa" and she turned around to face me. I would like to note that BITTLE was wearing blue leggings and not blue jeans, although the rest of the description provided matched her attire. I explained to her that Target had called about her trespassing and shoplifting and placed her into handcuffs, telling her that she was detained pending further investigation. I then called into Somerville Police Control with BITTLE's information, and they informed me that she had three (3) outstanding warrants (Dockets #2610CR000638, #2653CR000637, and #2656CR002059). It was at this point that I told BITTLE that she was under arrest. XXXX provided me with a copy of a "No Trespass Order" that BITTLE had signed on 3/25/26 (photo attached). XXXX also provided BITTLE with another copy for her own records, since she informed XXXX that she lost hers. An updated "No Trespass Order" copy dated 8/24/26 was also placed in BITTLE's personal property. Unit 200 operated by Officer Hartsgrove transported BITTLE back to the Somerville Police station (220 Washington Street) to be booked in the usual manner by Lt. Capasso. XXXX informed me that XXXX did not end up shoplifting and that all merchandise remained in-store. A still photo of BITTLE on Target property at 10:49am on 8/24/26 will be attached. I will be charging Ms. Shelisa BITTLE with: c.266 S120 - Trespass
Respectfully,
Officer Barton #367 Somerville Police Department |
