Narrative: On August 26, 2026 I, Officer Keighla McAloney, was assigned to marked unit East-1. At approximately 12:42 PM, I was dispatched to Home Depot, 75 Mystic Ave. report of a shoplift. Officer R. Lavey III, (East-4) responded as back up. Upon arrival, I observed Officer R. Lavey III, the suspect, later identified as Mr. Daniel Cruz, and the reporting party, Mr. XXXX, inside the entrance of Home Depot. All merchandise had been recovered and returned to Mr. XXXX, and Mr. Crus was in the process of signing a trespass notice. I first spoke with Mr. XXXX, who stated Mr. Cruz entered the store at approximately 12:00 PM. Mr. Cruz walked around the store placing several items into a tote and also selected several larger boxed items. At approximately 12:30 PM, Mr. Cruz exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the merchandise. I then spoke with Mr. Cruz, who only spoke Spanish. Mr. XXXX assisted with translation. I asked Mr. Cruz what had occurred prior to the arrival of the Somerville Police. Mr. Cruz stated he met an unknown male at the Home Depot in South Bay who offered to pay him to go to the Home Depot in Somerville and take merchandise for him. Mr. Cruz agreed and traveled with the unknown male from South Bay to the Home Depot, 75 Mystic Ave in Somerville. Mr. Cruz stated he remained on the phone with the unknown male while inside the store and was instructed which items to take. After Mr. Cruz exited the store, he noticed the unknown male was no longer in the parking lot. Mr. Cruz described the unknown male as a Spanish-speaking Mexican male operating a white work van. Mr. Cruz was unable to provide any further identifying information and stated he could not remember his own address. Somerville Dispatch conducted a CJIS query using the information provided, which returned negative results. The total value of the stolen merchandise was $1,409.00. Mr. Cruz was placed under arrest for Larceny Over $1,200, c266 S30. Mr. Cruz was also trespassed from Home Depot, and all merchandise was recovered and returned to the store. Unit 200, operated by Officer T. Sullivan, was requested to the scene. Unit 200 transported Mr. Cruz to the Somerville Police Department, where he was booked in the usual manner.
