Narrative:
On Tuesday, June 30, 2026, I, Officer Jorge Morel, was working patrol during my assigned 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM shift in the East Somerville District, in full uniform. The following is a summary of the events that occurred in Incident #26043665.
At approximately 5:10 PM, I was dispatched to 105 Middlesex Avenue (TJ Maxx), along with Officer Priscilla Ribeiro as backup, for a report of a shoplifter described as a white male with grayish hair carrying a yellow reusable bag filled with merchandise. According to dispatch, the suspect had allegedly walked toward the exit of the store, passing all points of sale without attempting to pay for any of the items contained within the reusable bag.
Loss Prevention employee XXXX made contact with the suspect and escorted him to the Loss Prevention office. Once inside, the suspect refused to provide any form of identification so that he could be properly identified and trespassed from the property.
Upon my arrival, I asked the suspect to provide his name and Social Security number in an attempt to identify him. The suspect refused to provide any identifying information. At that point, the suspect was placed under arrest, handcuffed behind his back, and transported to the Somerville Police Station by Officer Khoury, who was operating Prisoner Transport Unit #200.
While officers were waiting with the suspect outside of TJ Maxx, the suspect repeatedly asked me to ask an unidentified individual standing nearby if he could have a cigarette. I asked the suspect if he knew the individual, and he stated that he did not. The suspect continued to yell toward the unidentified person and request a cigarette however, the individual ignored him. The suspect then called me a "dick" for not allowing him to smoke a cigarette. I advised him that smoking a cigarette while in custody would not be a good idea.
The suspect then began taking several steps away from my immediate reach. I escorted him back to my position and instructed him not to walk away from me.
The suspect was subsequently booked in the usual manner by Shift Commander Lt. Capasso. During the booking process, the suspect identified himself as Shane Dora. Officer Barton queried the suspect through CJIS and learned that Mr. Dora had two active warrants, docket numbers #2301CR001605 and #2562CR002908.
Four packs of men's socks were recovered from Mr. Dora's reusable bag and returned to TJ Maxx. The total value of the recovered merchandise was $99.96 U.S. currency.
A Digital Photography of the receipt will be attach to this report. Mr. Dora was trespass from TJ Maxx.
I learned through Mr. XXXX that Mr. Dora has been in the Somerville store numerous times and shoplifted from them. he was flagged at the TJ Max in Dorchester on 06/27/2026 as well.
