On Friday, January 16, 2026 at approximately 9:20 am, I, Officer Walter Collette, was working traffic enforcement in the area of Broadway and School Street, both public ways in the city of Somerville.
I observed a black Honda Civic with New Hampshire plate number XXXX make an illegal U-turn against a posted sign at the above intersection. I then activated my lights and siren and pulled the motor vehicle over in the Walgreens parking lot.
I spoke with the driver later identified as Mr. Paul J. Fidler of his civil infraction and requested he produce his drivers license and the vehicles registration. Fidler informed me that he has a "suspended license but needed to pick up medicine from Walgreens."
A RMV check of Mr. Fidler's license confirmed that his status was in fact Revoked and the letter "T" restriction on his license requires him to use the ignition interlock device prior to him operating ANY vehicle. I looked in the 2018 Honda Civic and did not observe any such device installed.
With the help of Officer Richard Lavey III, I informed Fidler to step from the vehicle and that he was under arrest for the following charges;
1. c89s9, Disregarding a Traffic Control Sign, No U-Turn,
2. Operating a MV after Suspension/revocation, Subsequent Offense and,
3. Operating a MV without an Ignition Interlock device.
Massachusetts Uniform Citation number 959357AD was issued and will be placed with his property.
His Vehicle was towed by Stephen's tow and Fidler was transported to Somerville Police Headquarters by Officer Brian Clancy in unit 200 and booked by Lieutenant Kevin Shackelford.
Respectfully Submitted,
Officer Walter Collette
