Narrative:

On 05/17/2026 while in full uniform I was assigned to marked unit East-2, working the Day shift from 8AM-4PM. At approximately 11:25AM I was dispatched to Hillside Circle for a dispute. The reporting party stated to dispatch that a resident was outside yelling at people inside of Kelly Park over parking. While en route dispatch updated responding units that the male yelling was now holding a weapon of some sort that was later described as a baton. Officer Jean-Jaques (West-5), Officer McAloney (East-4), and Sgt. Campers (Sierra-9) responded as backup. I would note that dispatch received several calls for this same incident.

On scene I was met by a male party later identified as Mr. Michael BONAVENTURA. BONAVENTURA was irate, and screaming. BONAVENTURA stated several times that he was sick of these "Entitled Yuppie Fucks", and that he had finally had enough. While BONAVENTURA continued yelling profanities, I observed what seemed to be a children's birthday party taking place inside of Kelly Park. I then asked BONAVENTURA to walk with me across the street away from park, so that we could speak without causing a scene in front of the large group of children. BONAVENTURA complied, and went on to state that earlier a vehicle bearing Ma. Reg XXXX was parked on the corner of Craigie St. and Hillside Circle which made it extremely difficult for him to take the turn when leaving his house. BONAVENTURA stated that he asked the driver of this vehicle to move, so that he was able to get back into his residence when he returned. BONAVENTURA then stated that when he returned home that the vehicle was still parked in the same spot. BONAVENTURA stated that he then confronted the owner of the vehicle, later identified as Mr. XXXX, and an argument ensued. BONAVENTURA stated that XXXX refused to move his car, and because of that BONAVENTURA then parked his vehicle bearing Ma. Tag XXXX behind XXXX vehicle to make it difficult for XXXX to get out of his spot. BONAVENTURA stated that after this the two of them exited their vehicles, and continued "talking shit" and insulting each other. I asked BONAVENTURA if at any point he pulled out a baton, to which he stated "no." BONAVENTURA stated that while his argument with XXXX was taking place that his wife XXXX, was also starting to get into an argument with XXXX wife XXXX. BONAVENTURA stated that at one point XXXX pushed XXXX into a car.

While I spoke with BONAVENTURA, Officer McAloney spoke with XXXX. XXXX stated to Officer McAloney that BONAVENTURA began yelling at him about where he parked his vehicle. XXXX stated that both he and BONAVENTURA went back, and forth yelling at each other for a period of time. XXXX stated that at one point BONAVENTURA went to his car, and proceeded to pull out a black baton during the argument. XXXX stated that BONAVENTURA extended the baton, and then held it in a threatening manner while continuing to argue with him. XXXX stated that is when many other bystanders began fearing the situation may escalate, and proceeded to call 911.

Also on scene was a witness identified as Mr. XXXX. XXXX stated that he witnessed the entire altercation take place. XXXX stated that after yelling back, and forth for several minutes he witnessed BONAVENTURA retrieve a black baton out of his vehicle, and extend it while continuing to argue with XXXX. XXXX stated that he observed BONAVENTURA wave the baton around several times in a threatening manner, and rattle it along a fence while he was arguing with XXXX.

At this point given the circumstances, and witness statements that were obtained, I advised BONAVENTURA that he was being placed under arrest. I read BONAVENTURA his Miranda Warnings from a card that I keep on my person, to which he stated he understood. BONAVENTURA then went on to state that he never pulled out a baton while arguing, and that instead he pulled out a cannister of mace that he keeps on his person. I confiscated a cannister of mace from BONAVENTURA that will be logged in as evidence.

I then spoke to XXXX. XXXX stated that she observed the situation between BONAVENTURA and XXXX escalating, and she attempted to get in between the two of them. XXXX stated that at this time XXXX also attempted to get in between the two parties arguing. XXXX stated that very shortly after she and XXXX began arguing, and that XXXX proceeded to push her into car before officers arrived on scene. XXXX stated that she is a disabled veteran. I asked XXXX if she was in need of any medical attention, but she declined. I asked XXXX if there was at any point a baton involved in the altercation. XXXX stated "yes" there was, but that it had not been used or swung at anyone. I asked XXXX if she could provide the baton to me. XXXX then went into her apartment, and brought out a black baton consistent with the baton described by both XXXX and XXXX. XXXX handed me the baton, and stated that she did not want to comment any further on the situation until she was able to speak with a lawyer. I will be logging the baton as evidence.

BONAVENTURA was taken into custody without incident, and was transported to the Somerville Police Station by Unit 200 operated by Officer Timothy Sullivan, and was booked in the usual manner by Lt. Anderson.

Due to the circumstances, and statements collected by all parties on scene I will be filing the following charges:
