On Friday, March 20th, 2026 at 2:05pm, Somerville Police Control received a call from T.J. Maxx & More, located at 105 Middlesex Ave, for two shoplifters in the Loss Prevention office, who were unable to produce valid IDs.
I, Officer Barton (E1) along with Officer Lorenti (E3) responded to that location.
Officer Lorenti arrived on scene first and observed a black male and black female in the Loss Prevention office. The female stated her name was XXXX with a D.O.B. of XXXX, which I was able to confirm through CJIS. The male stated his name was " XXXX " with a D.O.B. of XXXX. Those parameters yielded negative results in CJIS. My suspicions were then aroused that this party was attempting to conceal his true identity, due to the possibility of him having outstanding warrants. I know based on my training an experience that when suspects produce an alias, they subconsciously provide information that is similar to the truth. That party eventually recited his SSN, which came back to a Michael ALEXANDER with a D.O.B. of XXXX and displaying that " XXXX " is his father's name. A CJIS query of ALEXANDER displayed that he had 4 active warrants (Dockets #2401CR002379, #2401CR002936, #2401CR005366, and #2501CR001623).
At that point, I requested the prisoner transport wagon (Unit 200), operated by Officer Lorizio.
After both XXXX and ALEXANDER signed T.J. Maxx's no trespass order, I allowed XXXX to be on her way.
Loss Prevention Specialist XXXX and Loss Prevention Detective XXXX then showed my surveillance footage of ALEXANDER and XXXX entering the store together at 1:54pm, go over to the footwear section, where ALEXANDER proceeded to select three pairs of sneakers, forcibly remove the black Sekura theft detection devices with his bare hands on all three, before placing one of the pair of sneakers in XXXX jacket and the other two pairs of sneakers inside of his own jacket.
ALEXANDER and XXXX then walk past all points of sale with the concealed merchandise inside of their jackets, before being stopped in the vestibule by XXXX and XXXX.
ALEXANDER concealed one pair of sneakers valued at $79.99 and another pair of sneakers valued at $99.99, for a total of $179.98
XXXX concealed one pair of sneakers valued at $79.99.
A photo of the receipt will be attached.
XXXX and XXXX stated that they would be saving a copy of the surveillance footage to be collected at a later date by a detective.
ALEXANDER was transported to Somerville Police Headquarters located at 220 Washington Street via Unit 200, and booked by Lt. Capasso.
Along with the four warrants and based on the information provided, I will be charging Mr. Michael ALEXANDER with the following:
c266 S30A/F - Shoplifting by Concealing Merchandise, 3rd offense
c266 S30B - Removal of Theft Detection Device, etc.
I will also be filing for a summons against Ms. XXXX for the following:
c266 S30A/D - Shoplifting by Concealing Merchandise
Respectfully,
Officer Barton #367
