On December 27, 2025, I patrolled East-2 for the Somerville Police Department. I responded to 180 Somerville Avenue (Target) regarding a shoplifter. East-3 Officer A. Lorenti responded as backup.

Upon arrival,  I was met by the reporting party, XXXX. Ms. XXXX is the Target Loss Prevention Officer.

Ms. XXXX stated that they had a repeat offender currently in the store, concealing children's clothing in a large reusable bag. As we monitored the cameras, we saw a female party, later identified as Jenelle Bell, head towards the store's exit. Officers waited at the front exit, and Ms. Bell attempted to exit the store with a large bag full of merchandise, bypassing the registers.

Ms. Bell was then escorted back to the Loss Prevention office. The items were returned to the target staff, who determined that the value was $412.67 for children's clothing.  Ms. Bell was identified and issued a written trespass from Target.

Ms. Bell was placed into handcuffs and informed that she was under arrest for shoplifting. The Transport Wagon responded, and Ms. Bell was transported back to headquarters, where she was booked in the usual manner by Sgt. P. Canty.

Ms. XXXX informed me that Ms. Bell had stolen approximately $10,000 worth of Target merchandise in approximately 30 days from different area targets.

Ms. Bell is being charged with the following:
