Narrative: During the past few months, there has been numerous citizenry complaints about drug use and dealing in Davis Square, especially the Statue Park, Seven Hills Park and West Branch Library areas. Due to these complaints, directed patrols as well as routine surveillance had been established within the past few weeks.
On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, I was conducting surveillance in the Davis Square area along with Lieutenant Kevin Shackelford during the 12AM-8AM shift. At approximately 1:34AM, we conducted a directed patrol at the West Branch Library (40 College Avenue) due to constant drug complaints, specifically behind the library at the bench area. We observed a male, later identified as Mr. Ivan Amaker sitting on the benches by himself while attempting to conceal what we believed to be drug paraphernalia (crack pipe) that he placed on the bench as we approached him. Lieutenant Shackelford and I conducted a threshold inquiry of Mr. Amaker and found a silver capsule we believe to hold illegal drugs.
Inside of the silver capsule was approximately 2 white rocky substances. Through my training and experience I believe this to be crack cocaine. Lieutenant Shackelford noticed that Mr. Amaker had his fist clenched and appeared to be holding an item inside of his hand. Mr. Amaker then handed Lieutenant Shackelford a black tube that appeared to be a potential holder for drugs. The items inside of the black tube contained two more white rocky substances that through his training and experience he believed to be crack cocaine as well.
At this time Mr. Amaker was placed under arrest and transported via marked unit 200, Officer Jonathan Martins to Somerville Police Headquarters and booked in the usual manner by the shift Commander, Lieutenant Samir Messaoudi. Mr. Amaker will be charged with the following:
-CH.94C S.34 DRUG, POSSESSION CLASS B
Respectfully submitted,
