Narrative: On Sunday October 25, 2026 at approximately 0232 hours I, Officer Lentini (East-3), was dispatched to the area of 40 Union Sq for a motor vehicle accident with unknown injuries. While en route dispatch informed officers the parties were arguing and Officer Kartso (East-2) and SGT Catatao (Sierra-8) were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival there was a large crowd that had formed in the street. One vehicle, MA XXXX, was on the curb and crashed into the street post, and MA XXXX was pulled over on the side of the road with rear end damage. I made my way over to the vehicle on the curb and found Brayan SANCHEZ sitting in the driver seat, with the engine running. I asked SANCHEZ if he was okay, or if he needed medical attention through the rear driver side window because SANCHEZ was not able to roll down the front window. SANCHEZ stated "I'm calling an UBER." SANCHEZ continued to talk but I was unable to understand him due to him slurring his words. I requested EMS to the scene and told SANCHEZ to turn the vehicle off. SANCHEZ then took the key fob to the vehicle and began pressing the panic alarm causing the horn to go off continuously. I was able to open SANCHEZ' driver door and asked him again to turn the vehicle off. At this point I could see SANCHEZ's eyes were bloodshot and I could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle. At this point SANCHEZ turned the vehicle off and on a few times and tried to shift gears. I then told SANCHEZ to exit the vehicle, which he did, and he proceeded to stumble into me. At this point I was able to smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage on SANCHEZ and saw that he was so unsteady on his feet that he would need assistance from officers. I attempted to walk SANCHEZ to the curb, away from his vehicle, due to the smoke and fluids leaking from the vehicle. SANCHEZ would not walk with me, and began punching the hood of his vehicle in what appeared to be an attempt to straighten the hood. It should be noted the damage to SANCHEZ's vehicle was extensive and the whole front end was crushed. At this point I passed SANCHEZ off to SGT Catatao in an attempt to talk to the other involved parties. SANCHEZ began yelling and thrashing his arms attempting to pull away from SGT Catatao. SANCHEZ was placed in handcuffs and sat on the curb. I then made my way over to speak with XXXX, the driver of MA XXXX. Mr. XXXX informed me he was an Uber driver and the two passengers, XXXX and XXXX, were not in need of medical attention. I informed them that EMS was on the way and they could be evaluated if they wished. While talking with Mr. XXXX and Mr. XXXX, I heard SGT Catatao and Officer Kartso giving SANCHEZ verbal commands to stay seated and to calm down. As I made my way over to them, SANCHEZ was able to stand up and turned towards Officer Kartso. SANCHEZ appeared to cock his head back in a manner to either spit of head butt Officer Kartso. I then grabbed SANCHEZ by the arm and his shirt and brought him to the ground. SANCHEZ was able to use the momentum to roll onto his knees and attempted to get up again. SGT Catatao tried to grab onto SANCHEZ but was unsuccessful and SANCHEZ charged towards me. I was able to use his momentum to bring SANCHEZ to the ground and maintain control of him. On the second attempt trying to get SANCHEZ to the ground he struck his head causing what appeared to be a small 1 inch laceration above his right eye. SANCHEZ was placed in the recovery position while Officer Kartso held his legs, and I held his upper body. SANCHEZ continued to yell, spit, and swear at officers causing the already large crowd to grow. SANCHEZ tried to break the grasp of officers almost the entire time he was on the ground. Unit 200 operated by Officer Martins arrived on scene and leg irons were placed on SANCHEZ. During this one Somerville Firefighter needed to assist due to the violence in which SANCHEZ was kicking. Throughout all of this, Officers, Firefighters, and bystanders were attempting to deescalate SANCHEZ to no avail. Once the leg irons were on Cataldo EMS stated it was officer discretion if SANCHEZ needed to go to the hospital due to the small size of the cut. I asked SANCHEZ if he wanted to go to the hospital and he did not answer the question. It was determined SANCHEZ would be brought to the Somerville Police Station to be booked and to attempt the breathalyzer. We informed SANCHEZ he would be stood up and brought to the prisoner transport van. SANCHEZ stood up, then began yelling he wanted to call his sister and refused to walk or stand anymore. Officer Kartso and I had to carry SANCHEZ to unit 200 while we informed him he could call whoever he wanted once he was at the station. Once on the steps of unit 200, SANCHEZ refused to enter yelling he wanted to call his sister. Officers attempted to lower SANCHEZ's head as the clearance into the van is very low and to prevent him from hitting his head on the door frame. Once SANCHEZ lowered his head he missed all the seats stumbling to the back most part of the van where he fell and appeared to hit his head again. It was decided SANCHEZ should go to the hospital. Cataldo EMS expressed their concerns with transporting SANCHEZ in the state he was in, and stated they would need to sedate him. SANCHEZ then refused to get out of unit 200 stating we needed to "pull him out". SANCHEZ then exited on his own and was placed on a stretcher and transported to Mass General Hospital. Officer Kartso rode inside the ambulance and SGT Catatao followed. SANCHEZ is being charged with the following:
Chapter 90 Subsection 24J Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol Chapter 266 Subsection 32B Resisting Arrest Chapter 272 Subsection 53F Disorderly Conduct During the booking process, the defendant was advised of his rights and asked to submit to a chemical test of his breath. The defendant refused to take the test. I issued the defendant citation# 637906AE and he was advised that his license would be suspended for chemical test refusal.
