Narrative:

At about 10:31PM on Wednesday, 10/13/26, I, Officer Westgate in unit West 6, responded to a call for a male breaking a window screen of a house at Milton @ Orchard St, Somerville.

Before arrival, dispatch mentioned that the reporting person saw a suspicious party that was using a flashlight to look inside of a house. As the reporting party (later identified as XXXX) tried to investigate, the suspect turned off their flashlight.

Upon arrival, I parked a few houses down from the residence and saw XXXX walking towards me. As XXXX got closer, he began whispering that the suspect was on the porch of 98 Orchard St. As I got closer to the porch, I saw the suspect (later identified as Brandon Graveline) standing on the porch with a window screen mesh on top of his head and a cigarette in his nose. At which point, I called out to Brandon Graveline (Graveline) and asked if he could step off of the porch and speak with me. Coming off of the porch, Graveline stated that he did not own the house and does not live at the residence. Once in front of me, I used contact controls to control Graveline and asked what he had been doing. Graveline mentioned that he was looking inside the house and "saw stuff that does not belong there." I then advised Graveline that he was being placed into handcuffs due to the defacement of property (window screen mesh that appeared to be ripped and on top of his head). Afterwards, Graveline was read Miranda Rights from a card and I conducted a search incident to arrest. After searching Graveline, and him agreeing to speak, I asked again why he was at 98 Orchard St. Similar to what he had stated earlier, he mentioned that he was homeless and has been for some time. More so, he added that the screen mesh on the window was "disappearing and reappearing" so he "ripped it off."

Due to his statements and damage to a window of 98 Orchard St (photograph will be attached to report,) unit 200 (transport wagon) was called for. When the transport wagon arrived on scene, Graveline was searched again and brought back to the station. He was booked by Lieutenant Messaoudi.

Afterwards, I spoke to the owner of 98 Orchard St named XXXX who was an elderly female and had no clue of the incident that had occured. XXXX was then advised of the totality of the circumstances and shown the damage done to her house. Before leaving the scene, I provided an incident number and how to obtain a copy of this report.

Back at the station, Sergeant Ashley Catatao was provided a statement from XXXX about the incident. XXXX mentioned that he was walking by 98 Orchard St when he saw Graveline shining a flashlight into a house from the porch. XXXX thought this was weird since the porch light was not on, and believed that Graveline did not live at that address. XXXX continued to watch him and saw Graveline attempt to open the porch door but couldn't. He then observed Graveline on the porch cutting the screen to the window. In an attempt to stop him, XXXX walked by him loudly and tried to scare him off. In response, Graveline turned off his flashlight and put the mesh screen onto his head. Graveline then came off of the porch and went to a different side door on Orchard St. He tried to open that door as well. Afterwards, Graveline returned to the porch where he had cut the window mesh off of the house and I soon arrived on scene.

Importantly, during the search incident to arrest, Graveline had a knife on him that may have been used to cut the window mesh. This is apparent as the mesh appeared to have straight cuts on each side. The knife is described as a small silver Gerber knife that is foldable and has the numbers 4660824B written on the blade. The knife will be entered into evidence.

Graveline is being charged with the following,

MGL CH 266 S 126A - DEFACING OR DAMAGING PROPERTY - Graveline ripped the window mesh off of the house

MGH CH 274 S 6 - Graveline attempted to break into and enter the residence as he felt the furniture did not belong inside the house

Respectfully submitted,

Officer Ryan Westgate
