On Wednesday, November 26, 2025, I, Officer Dayquan Goodnow, was assigned to marked unit West-6. While driving in my assigned patrol area in Davis Square, I was flagged down by a male later identified as XXXX. XXXX stated that a tall black man with long hair was walking towards the Bike Path with a knife and had threatened him. Two unidentified males sitting with XXXX stated that the unidentified male was a problem, corroborating XXXX description of him.

I notified dispatch that I would be investigating further in the area of Seven Hills Park and the bike path. As I was walking in Seven Hills Park towards the bike path, I observed a male who matched the description XXXX had given. I approached the male, later identified as Jesus Gomes, to question him about what had occurred. As I was walking towards GOMES, GOMES was talking loudly enough for me to hear him tell the people he was standing with that he's not here for me (Referring to me). I didn't do anything. I'll have my private investigator out here.

I asked GOMES what happened and if he had made a threat and had a knife on him. GOMES stated No, I don't have a knife on me, and I'm not talking to you and turned around and began to walk away from me. I explained to GOMES that I was conducting an investigation and that he was detained and not free to leave.  GOMES continued to walk away from me. I stated to GOMES again Do you have a knife on you which is when he turned around, stating No while lifting his shirt. I could see the handle of a knife in a holster/sheath tucked in GOMES' waistline near his midsection/genital area.

I went to grab GOMES by his right wrist to place him into handcuffs for my safety and the nearby public. I lifted his shirt and saw a silver handle with a grey rubber grip in a black holster/sheath in his waistline, confirming he had a weapon on him. As I was doing this, GOMES was attempting to pull away from my grasp. Officer McCune arrived on the scene. I stated to Officer McCune that he had a knife on him (referring to GOMES). Officer McCune and I took control of GOMES by his arms and explained to him that he was going into handcuffs.

GOMES continued to struggle, tensing up and pulling away from Officer McCune and I. We were able to pin GOMES to a tree while he continued to resist, not allowing Officers to place him into handcuffs. Officer McCune stated to GOMES Stop tensing up and resisting. GOMES continued to pull away from us, not allowing me to bring his right arm to the small of his back so we could properly secure him. We were able to secure GOMES as a Transit Police Officer in the area approached to help.

Once GOMES was secured, I was able to secure the Knife, which was over 2.5 inches, a violation of the city ordinance. I explained to GOMES that he was under arrest. I read GOMES is Miranda Warning from a card I keep on my person. West-5 Officer Gee arrived on scene. Officer McCune located XXXX on the bench in front of the Davis Square train station.

I went to speak with XXXX for further information on the events. XXXX told me that GOMES walked past him and said, Oh, you think you're bigger than me? To which XXXX replied, "What's up nigga?" XXXX stated that this is when GOMES lifted up his shirt, and he could see a knife in his waistline, pointing to his own midsection/genital area, saying it was right here. XXXX further stated that GOMES stated I'll cut your throat which is why he flagged me down.

I returned to GOMES, who was explaining to Officers on scene that he was defending himself and that XXXX had a metal pole and had come at him with it in front of the 7 Eleven in Davis Square. I asked GOMES why he didn't call the police; he stated Because I just walked away. GOMES' girlfriend, identified as Jennifer Farrell, arrived on the scene and corroborated GOMES' story. I explained that I would conduct a follow-up investigation with the stores to check the cameras.

Please note that Officer McCune searched the area for the metal pole but found nothing. I conducted a follow-up with 7 Eleven employees, who allowed me to review the camera footage, which showed FARRELL and unknown parties in the area eating and then departing. GOMES and XXXX were not seen on the footage.

GOMES is charged with the following:
