Somerville Police Department – Application to U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) FY2025 Local Solicitation Program

The City of Somerville is eligible for a direct award of $20,239 through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) FY2025 Local Solicitation from the Office of Justice Programs of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). The award amount was determined by a formula based on population and violent crime statistics. Eligibility for this grant was determined by Uniform Crime Report data that Somerville has submitted to the FBI. The grant period of performance is 24 months. In accordance with the grant requirements, the application must be made public and an opportunity to comment on the application must be provided to citizens and neighborhood or community-based organizations, to the extent applicable law and established procedure makes such an opportunity available.

Funding from the Byrne JAG grant can be used to provide additional personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, training, technical assistance, and information systems for criminal justice or civil proceedings to local law enforcement agencies. Somerville Police Department is requesting funding to support overtime police shifts as part of a coordinated Public Safety and Emergency Response Initiative associated with the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 summer games. The full proposal can be viewed at Somerville Police Department headquarters, 220 Washington Street, at the information desk in the lobby.
