On October 19, 2025, at approximately 11:51 PM, I, Officer Daniel Dell'Isola, assigned to cruiser W7, responded to 27 Claremon St. for a male checking car door handles and entering a motor vehicle.  Officer J. Brown Responded as backup.  While in route, Somerville Police Dispatch updated officers that the male was described as a 6'2 black male, wearing a hat and holding a bottle of alcohol in his hand.

When officers arrived on scene, we located a male standing on the sidewalk in front 29 Claremon St.  The male was later identified as Christian Mercedes. Christian was holding an open bottle of Fireball Whiskey in his right hand.  I ordered Christian to pour the remainder of the alcohol on the ground in which he did so.  I asked Christian where he was coming from and if he lived in the area.  Christian informed me that he is from Everett and was here to visit his uncle who lives in Somerville.  I asked Christian what his uncles name is, to which he stated "XXXX".  I then asked Christian what his uncles last name is to which he stated "I don't know."  I asked Christian if he drove here, to which he stated no.  I asked Christian if he had a vehicle and if it was parked on the street, to which he stated no.  During my conversation with Christian he appeared to be intoxicated.  Christian was swaying back and forth and had an odder of alcohol emanating from him.

Officer Brown informed me that the passenger door to a blue Hyundai Accent (MA Reg. XXXX), was left open and the vehicle appeared to be rummaged through.  The vehicle was parked in front of 37 Claremon St. which is in close proximately to where we located Christian.  I informed Christian why were called here and asked him if he entered any vehicles.  Christian stated no.  I then told Christian that someone stated that he was seen entering a motor vehicle.  Christian then informed me that he may have entered the vehicle but didn't take anything.  I asked Christian if he would consent to a search to which he stated yes.  In Christians jacket pocket was a gray women's purse along with a bunch of other miscellaneous items.  The purse was empty and didn't contain any identification, credit cards, or currency.  I asked Christian who the purse belonged to, and he stated that it was his girlfriends.  Officers placed Christian in handcuffs and informed him that he was being detained pending further investigation.

The Blue Hyundai Accent is registered to a XXXX who resides at XX Claremon St. Apt #X.  I was able to get in contact which XXXX and informed her what had happened.  I asked XXXX if her vehicle was locked to which she stated she wasn't sure.  There didn't appear to be any damage to the passenger side door that would indicate that the locking mechanism was forced open.  The vehicles glove compartment and center console were left open and all the items inside were spread throughout the floor of the vehicle.  I asked XXXX if she could determine if anything was missing from the vehicle.  XXXX stated that she wasn't sure and that it was hard to tell due to the condition the vehicle was left in.

I then showed XXXX the items that Christian had on his person and asked if any of them were hers.  XXXX immediately stated that the gray purse belonged to her.  I returned the purse to XXXX.

I then spoke with the reporting party, who was later identified as XXXX.  XXXX stated that he was inside his house at XX Claremon St. when he witnessed Christian enter his driveway and try to open his vehicle's door, however it was locked.  XXXX stated that he saw Christian leave his driveway and attempt to open other doors to vehicles that were parked on the street.  XXXX stated he then called the police.  XXXX stated that he didn't witness Christian enter XXXX vehicle.

Christian was informed that he was under arrest.  Officer Antoine arrived on scene in unit 200 and transported Christian back to the station where he was booked by Lt. Anderson.  Christian Mercedes is charged with Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle at Night time for a Felony, Massachusetts General Law Ch. 266 s. 16/D.

Respectfully submitted,

Officer Daniel Dell'Isola #358
