On 10/20/2025, I, Officer McCune, was assigned to marked unit West-6 working for the Somerville Police Department. At approximately 10:37 AM, Officer D. Dell'isola (W-7) and I were dispatched to the area of 20 Kingston St. for reports of a man entering driveways and checking car door handles. Officers arrived on scene momentarily after the call was dispatched. The suspect was described as a white male in his 50s, wearing a long hooded sweatshirt and baggy jeans. While searching the area, Ofc. Dell"isola was able to locate a party matching that description exiting a driveway in the area of 45 Kingston St. Ofc. Dell'isola stated that when the male saw him, he went down Locke St. in Cambridge and ended up coming out to Shea St. in Cambridge, where I first saw him. When this party saw my cruiser, he immediately took off running down the driveway of 31 Shea St. I followed this party and told him to stop, and he replied, "No!". I was able to gain control of this individual after a brief struggle at the end of the driveway of 31 Shea St. While I was attempting to handcuff this party, I observed him dumping loose change out of his pockets.
Ofc. Dell'isola came to my location, where we escorted this party back to my cruiser. I notified dispatch of our updated situation, and Sergeant Jason Costa (S-8) and Cambridge Police also responded. The involved suspect was later identified as David Powell. While officers were speaking with Powell, a female by the name of XXXX approached us, stating she saw POWELL enter her vehicle (MA. Reg. XXXX). I would like to note that Ms. XXXX resides at XX Shea St. within the city of Cambridge. Ms. XXXX stated that she told POWELL to get out of her car, and he said "Fuck you," but eventually left. XXXX stated that she was very frightened by the whole incident. While continuing to speak with XXXX, I was made aware of another victim of POWELLS. This party was identified as XXXX. I asked Ms. XXXX what had happened, and she stated that just before she saw Somerville Police cruisers in the area of her residence at XX Campbell PK. in Somerville, she just happened to look out of her window and saw a male matching Powell's description getting out of her vehicle (MA. Reg. XXXX). When XXXX went outside to check to see if anything was missing, she noticed that approximately $3.00 in loose change was no longer present, as well as a blue gardening shovel. I would like to note that POWELL did have an extensive amount of loose change on his person, but he claimed that it was not stolen. The small blue shovel was never recovered, as POWELL stated that he threw it away. Both Vehicles that POWELL entered without the owner's consent were left unlocked.
Cambridge Police Officers Pereira and Yearwood arrived on scene and stated that they would be filing a report for the vehicle that was broken into within Cambridge. Taking into consideration all of the facts and circumstances, David POWELL was placed under arrest for the following charges:
1. 266/16/B BREAK INTO DEPOSITORY c266 S16
2. 266/30/C LARCENY UNDER $1200 c266 S30
Unit-200, operated by Officer C. O'leary responded to the scene and transported POWELL back to Somerville Police Headquarters where he was booked in the usual manner by the shift commader, Sgt. Ducasse.
Respectfully Submitted,
Officer Matthew McCune #371
Somerville Police Department.
