On October, 22 2025, I, Officer McAloney, was assigned to marked unit East-2. At approximately 12:39 PM, Officer Legros, (East-3), and I were dispatched to 14 McGrath Hwy., Marshalls, for a report of a shoplifter. Somerville Police Dispatch notified responding officers that the suspect had been trespassed in the past and was actively cutting off security sensors.

On scene in the parking lot, I was met by the reporting party Mr. XXXX, Officer Legros and the suspect later identified as Mr. Cody BEATTIE.

Once inside the lost prevention office XXXX stated, BEATTIE had been trespassed before. He added today, BEATTIE used a red cutting instrument  to cut the security sensor off a pair of high top Coach footwear. BEATTIE then placed the shoes in his duffel bag and exited the store. XXXX attempted to stop BEATTIE however, it wasn't until Officer Legros presence that BEATTIE stopped.

A search of BEATTIEs property for any other stolen merchandise showed a red cutting instrument. This was confirmed by lost prevention the tool used to cut the security tag off.

The total value of stolen merchandise was $79.99.

BEATTIE was placed under arrest and transported to Somerville Police Headquarters in unit 200, operated by Officer Barton. He was booked in the usual manner by Sgt. P. Canty for the charges of:

c266 S30B, REMOVAL OF THEFT DETECTION DEVICE, ETC.

c266 S30A, SHOPLIFTING BY CONCEALING MDSE

Throughout the interaction BEATTIE was confrontational and disrespectful at times telling officers to get a real job. I recognized BEATTIE from prior incidents involving the Somerville Police. He added he is recently homeless and was advised of the resources Somerville Police Department has to offer. I'd note, XXXX stated there are previous shoplifting cases with BEATTIE that have been reported to the Somerville Police Department.

The red cutting instrument will be tagged into evidence as well as the receipt from Marshalls.

Respectfully,

Officer Keighla McAloney
